POLICE FITNESS CHALLENGE

OCTOBER 5,2019

The Police Fitness Challenge is a tactical and obstacle, 2-person TEAM event primarily for law enforcement personnel, but with an Open Challenge in the afternoon for anyone from the public sector wanting to tackle this fun and challenging course. The course is located on a 120-acre private farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Galax, Virginia. It’s three miles long, features 21 obstacles, and ends with the obstacle that makes this event both special and unique — a timed marksmanship component!

The Story of
DEPUTY CURTIS BARTLETT

Curtis Bartlett was a Veteran, a Law Enforcement Officer, and a Body Builder with a huge following around the world via social media. He died in the line of duty as a County Deputy, serving in the same community where he was born and raised. Curtis believed that every Law Enforcement Officer and First Responder should be “fit to serve.”

THE MISSION

Deputy Curtis Bartlett was a veteran, an elite athlete, and a law enforcement officer who lost his life in the line of duty on March 9, 2017. He advocated that every First Responder should be “fit to serve, fit to protect, fit for life.” Deputy Bartlett believed officers have a solemn responsibility to pursue fitness to serve citizens, help a fellow officer in need, and to increase the odds of making it home to enjoy family and friends. Police Fitness (PF) was founded as a nonprofit to expand upon Curtis’s vision.

According to a recent Presidential Commission on Policing in the 21st Century, a large proportion of officer injuries and deaths are not the result of interaction with criminal offenders, but the outcome of poor physical health due to inferior nutrition, lack of exercise, sleep deprivation, and sometimes substance abuse. PF addresses these critical issues in three ways.
